Irish Soda Bread

I was in the mood to bake something today, and seeming my family will be flying into Ireland at some stage today I thought I'd make some Irish soda bread. Its yummy, easy and pretty healthy too :) Much easier than yeast breads as there is no kneading involved and no waiting around to let it rise.

You'll need:
500ml buttermilk or sour milk
750g plain flour (I use a mix of normal and wholemeal)
50g Oats
1tsp salt
1tsp bicarb soda

You need to preheat the oven to 220 degrees, and then put all the dry ingredients into a bowl

Add in the milk and mix with a spoon till it combines to form a dough

At this stage you can add more milk or flour depending on what it looks like

When you're happy with the consistency, turn it out onto a floured bench. Pat it into a round shape and cut a cross in the top. Pop into the oven and turn the oven down to 180 degrees. Should take between half an hour and 45 mins.

Tastes great with butter and golden syrup, or toasted for breakfast :)

And perfect if you have a hungry teacher man coming home soon...
